Pharmanex Has More Than 75 PhD Working To Develop Supplements...Excessive?

An interesting conversation occurred between Warren and a Pharmanex representative, and this representative told Warren that Pharmanex has more than 75 PhD researchers working to develop their supplements.

The representative also claimed that their product (called LifePak) is the best, most complete, well-researched and bioavailable supplement currently on the market and is backed by double-blind studies to boot.

So Warren, CEO and founder of Xtend-Life was posed these 2 questions:

  • What measure do you use to compare your R&D department to other companies' and how many Ph.D.'s do you have on staff?

  • Please comment on "Before we develop a new product we search out the best supplement of its type in the world. Unless we are confident that we can produce a significantly superior product and give better value for money to our customers we do not begin the development of it..."  with regards to what the representative had shared.

Warren's Reply:

Warren responded confidently and shared that Xtend-Life certainly do stand by and can support the statement that they make on our home page.

He started by sharing how Pharmanex is a large multi-national multi level marketing company owned by Nu-Skin Corporation (MNC + MLM), and if they do indeed have 75 Ph D's working to develop their supplements, and if he were the Chairman of their Board of Directors, the first thing he'd ask is -- "why do they need so many?"

The reason being, most large and substantial pharmaceutical companies don't have nor need that many.

He highlighted and reiterated that what truly matters is the quality of personnel, not quantity. He explained that he has seen articles and research from hundreds of PhD's and very few of them understand the very complex interaction and synergy of various ingredients and sub categories of ingredients at molecular levels. Even lesser of them actually and truly understand the implication of these components on the various metabolic pathways.

Warren drove home this point:

The important thing is that the scientist who signs off on each product really knows their 'stuff'.

We hope that every health supplement company has scientists that truly knows what they are doing, and Xtend-Life maintains and remains confident that competitors would not have someone at the level of Prof. Dr. A. Munem Daoud who is a world leader in this field of health supplements. In the end, quantity and numbers of PhD's employed has no real impact on the efficacy or otherwise of a product.

Specifically responding to the representative's point about LifePak, Warren mentioned that it is a good product and superior to most other products on the market, but in Xtend-Life's opinion, it is grossly overpriced and very basic compared to Xtend-Life's Total Balance.

The biggest problem for Pharmanex is because of their business model and size - they're so big and because of their business plan, it just wasn't suitable for them to produce a professional product such as Total Balance and get it to the market at a reasonable price.

Warren further illustrated by saying:

For example, if they tried to duplicate our Total Balance I would expect that their retail price would be out of the reach of most people and as such they would not be able to survive. To get a better appreciation of this look at the comparison of the two products!

In this regard, you can see that LifePak only has a fraction of the active ingredients found in the Xtend-Life Total Balance series. LifePak also doesn't have a special delivery system such as enteric coating which is vital and essential for this type of product to actually deliver the active ingredients to the user's body. Yes, employing enteric coating is expensive and tedious but without it, our stomach acids will just destroy all the nutrients - the enteric coating is what that successfully brings the nutrients to our upper intestine for true absorption.

Warren declined to comment on the 'double blind' placebo trials, as Xtend-Life didn't find any of those studies mentioned on Medline which is the standard and even the "bible for clinical studies."
